This knife was made by Shane Stainton.
I picked it up at the Sherwood Forest Faire a few months back. It’s actually been sitting on my desk ever since then, wrapped in newspaper. It got set down and buried… and in cleaning off the desk the other morning, finally unwrapped it.
Shane’s a blacksmith, and I’ve just got this thing about blacksmithing — I really want to try it (one of these days I’ll take the classes at Pioneer Farms). We got to talking, then there was a little breaking character and we bonded on geek stuff. Really warm and open guy, laughs a lot, just had a great time talking with him (and probably could have all afternoon, if not for the kids getting bored while a couple old geeks got their geek on).
I liked this knife because it’s small, fits very neatly in my hand, and that deep belly? Oh, this is just made for skinning. I liked the simple but yet not too plain look. It just felt good in the hand, and yes I cannot wait until next hunting season so I can try it out. Yes, the knife really only has one purpose, but it seems like it should do a pretty good job at it.
I just need a sheath for it.
